Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 5 – 6 cups of water or broth (chicken, beef, or vegetable) or half of each
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup brown Basmati rice

Instructions

  1. Bring water and salt to a boil in a medium saucepan with a lid.
  2. While the water is heating, rinse the rice under cold water using a strainer or sieve for 15 to 20 seconds. This step removes the starch coating the rice grains, resulting in clump-free, non-gummy rice.
  3. Once the water is boiling, add the rice to the saucepan and cook uncovered over medium heat for 30 minutes.
  4. Drain the rice in the sieve and return the brown rice to the cooking pot.
  5. Cover the pot and let the rice sit on the counter for 5 minutes to evaporate the remaining moisture.
  6. Fluff the rice with a rice paddle and serve.

Meal Prep: Store cooked and cooled brown rice in an airtight glass container. Leftover rice will be good for 4-5 days.

To Heat Leftovers, remove the lid, place a wet paper towel over the rice container, and reheat in the microwave on high for 1-minute intervals until the desired temperature is reached.
